What you'll do

    Begin the tour at the Florence Specialists office. From there, we will cross Piazza San Marco.

    Palazzo Medici-Riccardi

    See the beautiful palace and the courtyard with its elegant Renaissance architecture and ornamentation. Learn about the legend that claims that a Medici woman introduced a long list of foods, techniques, and utensils to the royal court in France.

    Basilica of San Lorenzo

    With a foundation dating back to the 4th century, this was the original cathedral of Florence. It is also the place where Medici tombs are found.

    Borgo San Lorenzo

    Then continue to down a lively street with typical Florentine shops and restaurants. Learn how the Bistecca Fiorentina is a cut above the rest. Walk to the Basilica of San Lorenzo, the first Renaissance church designed by Brunelleschi and stop to sample Truffle spread and olive oil along the way.

    Piazza del Duomo
    The itinerary continues to the Cathedral Square. Stop here to admire the record-breaking dome built by Filippo Brunelleschi and learn all about its construction and the history of Santa Maria del Fiore. Hear the legendary tale about how a typical Florentine dish was invented here.

    Next, head for the heart of the ancient Roman city, where you will learn about the city’s foundation. See the historic cafes where artists and intellectuals would meet.

    Walk down to admire medieval monuments of the city making your way to enjoy an Olive Oil tasting. Learn about the production of Olive Oil and how one Tuscan family has kept old traditions alive while adapting to modern times.     Then continue the walk, passing by landmarks sites, like the beautiful Baroque facade designed by a master architect believed to be the real inventor of gelato. See Renaissance palaces and learn about the tradition of wine making as you admire the palace of one of the oldest wine-producing families of Florence, the Antinori. See their historic wine window and learn how this local tradition began.

    Wine Tasting with typical Tuscan Appetizers

    End the tour with wine tasting. Taste 3 different wines matched with traditional Tuscan products hosted by a knowledgeable cellar staff who will share and entertain you with local wine making facts and stories. Enjoy a platter of Tuscan Appetizers including Italian Olives, Bruschetta, Salami and Prosciutto. Wine tasting and appetizers are included in the cost of the itinerary.
